The Board of Managers of The Philadelphia Foundation oversees the stewardship of the Foundation’s assets. The Board approves the investment policies, the engagement of the independent investment consultant and the annual spending policy.
The Board has assigned primary responsibility for investment decisions and monitoring to the Investment Committee, which is comprised of board members and non-board member investment experts. The committee meets at least quarterly.
The Foundation’s investment strategy for the endowment pool consists of establishing a strategic asset allocation that is expected to achieve the Foundation’s long-term return objectives of the spending policy plus inflation, while diversifying the portfolio by asset class and strategy, thereby reducing risk and increasing the likelihood of meeting or exceeding the return objective over varying economic and market cycles. The Philadelphia Foundation does not attempt to market time or change strategy based on short-term market conditions.
