Scholarship List

The Philadelphia Foundation administers several scholarships that support various educational opportunities for applicants of all ages.

Applicants are encouraged to read the eligibility requirements for each scholarship and apply to the ones that match their educational plans.

Alpha Phi Alpha Leadership Development Institute Scholarship
The Leadership Development Institute (LDI) aims to develop a 21st century generation of Leaders. This mission starts with young men, particularly those who demonstrate the potential to comprehend and apply the fundamental principles needed by leaders as well as whom, by virtue of their age and education, are often looked upon as role models. The recipient of this award will receive an all expense paid trip to the 2014 Alpha Phi Alpha Regional Leadership Development Institute at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York July 17-20, 2014.

Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarships and Book Awards
Through this annual scholarship program, the fraternity seeks to recognize graduating high school seniors and students currently enrolled in undergraduate programs, who are and who have exhibited exceptional academic performance, excellence in leadership and dedication to community service.

Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association Nursing Scholarship
Scholarships for tuition assistance to persons entering nursing or for those who are accepted in or enrolled in an NLN-accredited program (AD, diploma or BSN). Recommendation from a graduate preferred but not required. Open to graduating high school seniors and individuals returning to formal education.
Deadline: May 16, 2014.

Crouthamel Family Nursing Scholarship
Scholarships for tuition assistance to persons entering nursing or for those who are enrolled in a program. Preference given to applicants who are related to a nurse but not an absolute requirement. Open to graduating high school seniors and individuals returning to formal education.
Deadline: May 16, 2014.

GlaxoSmithKline Opportunity Scholarship
Scholarships for residents of Philadelphia who have overcome significant adversity. Applicants will be asked to describe their adverse experience and how they overcame. This scholarship is for students who plan to attend colleges and universities listed in the state of Pennsylvania only (list is on the application).
Deadline: April 7, 2014.

Hussain Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established to encourage the hardworking-gifted college students, who want to contribute to society. As a result of Dr. Hussain’s roots and educational background, the fund will support students of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
Deadline: May 5, 2014.

The Katz-Ward Family Scholarship
The Katz Ward Family scholarship is based on the conviction that education is a critical step on the road to self-sufficiency and success. Understanding that education may be difficult to access for many, particularly single mothers, the scholarship was established to encourage women to seek and obtain a college degree.
Deadline: June 1, 2014

Mervyn Sluizer, Jr. Scholarship
The Mervin Sluizer, Jr. Scholarship Fund was created in 1992 by alumni of Philadelphia Troop 185, Boy Scouts of America; for the purpose of helping worthy Eagle Scouts pursue higher education.
Deadline: May 2, 2014.

Richard Ash Scholarship
Applicant must be a Philadelphia resident who is a graduating high school senior or adult student interested in seeking a college education and applicant must demonstrate financial need.
Deadline: April 14, 2014.

The Luther and Mary Ida Vandross Scholarship
The Luther and Mary Ida Vandross Fund was established to honor the memory of Luther Vandross and his devoted mother Mary Ida. Scholarships from this fund will be awarded to assist students seeking to graduate from a historically Black college or university.
Deadline: May 5, 2014.
