GSK awards Greater Philadelphia nonprofits making a powerful IMPACT on health outcomes now more than ever

November 19, 2020

Ten nonprofits each received $40,000 for their integral community support in the age of COVID-19

Ten local nonprofits were awarded $40,000 each in recognition of their outstanding contributions to a healthier Greater Philadelphia region. For 24 years, the GSK IMPACT Awards continue to be a highly competitive program recognizing organizations that are working hand-in-hand with the community to improve health. This year, the winners have shown a keen flexibility in adjusting their approaches to meet community needs with the onset of the coronavirus and are eager to share their remarkable stories.

“All of us have been tested in new and unfortunate ways this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” said Jamey Millar, Senior Vice President of Managed Markets & Government Affairs and Chairman of the U.S. Contributions Committee at GSK. “While so much of our responsibilities have focused on taking care of ourselves and our families, we need to honor and reward the groups that take care of the most vulnerable in our community even while risking their own health and wellbeing.”

The winners are:

“This award will allow us to provide consistent programming and support to youth during a time when they face so much uncertainty,” said Andy Kucer, Executive Director, Students Run Philly Style. “Our students and Mentors continue to inspire us each day, and now, at a time when it is hard to look

beyond anything other than what is right in front of us, the GSK IMPACT Award gives our organization the capacity to keep moving forward.”

In Greater Philadelphia, the GSK IMPACT Awards are presented in partnership with Philadelphia Foundation (@PhilaFound).

“In the midst of a year filled with uncertainty and challenges, these nonprofits persevered in meeting the needs of the community,” said Pedro A. Ramos, Philadelphia Foundation President and CEO. “We are proud to partner with GSK to recognize the extraordinary efforts of these organizations and support the advancement of their mission-critical work.”

Philadelphia regional winners were selected by a panel led by Philadelphia Foundation and consisting of GSK employees as well as local and national community health leaders. The nonprofits needed to demonstrate innovative, measured and sustainable approaches to addressing at least one of the following six community health factors: Community Safety, Education, Employment & Income, Family & Social Support, Housing & Built Environment, and Nutrition & Physical Activity.
