CIVIC LEADERSHIP

Be A Civic Leader

For more than 100 years, Philadelphia Foundation has earned its reputation for creativity, agility, and action when it comes to addressing urgent issues and critical challenges in our region. The Civic Leadership Fund acts as our annual fund, providing the necessary unrestricted resources to respond to issues when they arise.

Unrestricted funds are the lifeblood of innovation and progress. They provide us with the flexibility to respond swiftly to emerging needs, address pressing issues, seize unique opportunities, and tackle unforeseen challenges head-on. By contributing to the Civic Leadership Fund, you are ensuring that your support can be strategically deployed where it is needed most.

We are committed to enhancing the economic, cultural and social vibrancy of greater Philadelphia community, and we encourage you to join us in championing these efforts with a donation to the Civic Leadership Fund.

Galvanizing Business, Civic and Philanthropic Leaders to Save Lives

In November 2022, we launched the Civic Coalition to Save Lives – a coalition of organizations and CEOs who have come together to learn about, support, and drive proven, sustainable intervention strategies to materially reduce gun violence. While the rate of these crimes remains high, few cities can match the level of gun violence reduction Philadelphia has seen in the past 12 months.

This progress is a testament to the dedicated work of the many civic, philanthropic, non-profit, business, grassroots and government organizations sharing ownership of the problem as well as acting on solutions.

Rapidly Mobilizing Leadership and Resources

At the start of the pandemic, we drew on flexible resources to create the infrastructure and to operate the PHL COVID-19 Fund, which in its first 100 days raised and granted more than $17.5M to nonprofit organizations serving the most impacted communities in our region.

Philadelphia Foundation’s 100-plus-year history of supporting the causes and organizations that help our region’s most vulnerable and economically disadvantaged and at-risk populations uniquely positioned us to lead this effort in partnership with the United Way.

A Business-led Initiative Investing in Pathways to Housing Solutions

Leaders of Philadelphia’s hospitality, retail, and commercial property business sectors joined together to launch PHLCares, a new business-led initiative to address the issue of chronic homelessness in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Foundation provides back-end support, managing the fund and grant making for this innovative public-private partnership.

On the Table Philly was a forum designed to elevate civic conversation, foster new relationships and create a unifying experience.

As Philadelphia Foundation prepared to enter its second century of service, we co-hosted On the Table Philly in 2017, 2018 and 2019, bringing together thousands of socially and civic-minded individuals for conversations to inspire new ways to work together to make our communities stronger, safer and more dynamic.

These conversations helped inform our second century strategy and underscored the important civic leadership role Philadelphia Foundation can and must play in the region.
