TPF And Knight Foundation Partner On Mealtime Conversations and Ideas For A Greater Philadelphia

MEALTIME CONVERSATIONS AND IDEAS FOR A GREATER PHILADELPHIA THROUGH A NEW PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE PHILADELPHIA FOUNDATION AND THE JOHN S. AND JAMES L. KNIGHT FOUNDATION

Philadelphia, PA (2/6/2017) The Philadelphia Foundation and the John S. and James L Knight Foundation are joining forces to launch “On the Table Philly”, a new initiative to engage area residents in an open dialogue and inspire new solutions to strengthen communities.

“The Philadelphia Foundation is very pleased that Philadelphia has been selected as one of ten cities to pilot On the Table. Over the next 100 days or so, On the Table Philly will recruit at least 100 hosts and organizers to convene discussions among people in our region about the common good of our region – opportunities for residents who may not regularly come together to come together, break bread, and ultimately begin to build a deeper and broader civic voice in our region. Working with Knight and others, we will have tools, including surveys for gathering and publishing what we learn,” said Pedro A. Ramos, President & CEO of The Philadelphia Foundation.

Taking place on May 23, 2017, On the Table Philly will seek to connect individuals and communities of diverse perspectives and backgrounds to elevate civic conversations, share a meal, foster new relationships and create a unifying experience. The local campaign will be launched in early March, leading up to May 23.

“We are looking forward to the insights that residents from all backgrounds will have for making our city an even better place to live and work,” stated Patrick Morgan, Knight Foundation program director for Philadelphia. “Philadelphia is one of many cities hosting an On the Table event across the nation, the hope is that this connected effort will help cities identify opportunities and solutions that will lead to more growth and prosperity.”
