Ted Qualli

Director of Communications and Marketing

Ted has served as the Director of Marketing and Communications at Philadelphia Foundation since November 2021.  In this capacity, he leads the foundation’s communications, marketing and public relations efforts.  Now in its second century, the Foundation has sharpened its focus on being a trusted leader and turn-to resource, creating impact by increasing philanthropic investment in the region and serving as a civic voice and leader in Greater Philadelphia.

Ted has been part of the leadership team behind the Civic Coalition to Save Lives – a broad cross-sector effort bringing more than 90 business, philanthropic and civic organizations together to partner with the City of Philadelphia to address the issue of gun violence.  The Coalition‘s goals are to bend the curve on gun violence in the near-term while ensuring effective strategies and evidence-based interventions are sustained across transitions in city leadership.

As many of the issues impacting the Philadelphia region are realized statewide, Ted also serves on the Board of Directors of the PA Community Foundation Association, helping advance the work of community foundations across the Commonwealth.

Prior to joining Philadelphia Foundation, Ted served as Executive Director of the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia (PAL) for eight years, where, as the first civilian executive director in the organization’s 70+ year history, he was charged with developing and executing a new strategic direction, operational model and fiscal strategy to advance PAL’s mission.  During Ted’s tenure, PAL secured transformational gifts, implemented an organizational-wide metrics and outcomes program which quantified a measurable impact on juvenile crime, and opened five new PAL Centers. As leader of one of Philadelphia’s largest out-of-school-time (OST) programs, Ted served on the City of Philadelphia’s OST Steering Committee and helped inform the development and execution of the city’s first OST strategic plan focused on outcomes and quality.

Prior to joining PAL, Ted spent seven years as part of the leadership team for Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region.  During this time, he also served as President of the Big Brothers Big Sisters State Association of Pennsylvania, coordinating public policy and fundraising efforts on behalf of Pennsylvania’s 26 BBBS agencies and launching the Commonwealth’s first ever statewide Mentoring Children of Prisoners program.  Prior to joining the non-profit sector, Ted spent five years working in various communications capacities for the City of Philadelphia during the Mayoral Administration of John F. Street.

Ted holds an M.A. in Professional Communications from La Salle University and a B.A. in English from Holy Family University. Ted and his wife Maria, a Family Nurse Practitioner, have three children.
